FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What’s the difference between carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide?
Hydrogen peroxide is a stronger bleaching agent than carbamide peroxide which is why it’s usually recommended for use by dentists only. As carbamide peroxide is a low dosage formulation, it is safe for at-home use or for use over a longer period of time and is less likely to cause tooth or gum sensitivity. Carbamide peroxide breaks down to about one third hydrogen peroxide, so an 18% carbamide peroxide solution has the same effect as a 6% hydrogen peroxide solution.
Is PelactivBRIGHT safe?
Research has shown that if the teeth and gums are normal and healthy there are no adverse effects to bleaching one's teeth. You must make sure the dosage is of legal limits and not excessive and administered in a professional manor. People with tooth decay and with any type of gum disease should avoid this treatment. Never treat a pregnant woman; no know side effects are affirmed but it is simply a precaution.
Are there any side effects?
Some people may feel a little tingling sensation, or experience a white gum line, or sensitivity, all of which are normal. Typically, this will only last from a couple of hours. For clients with sensitive gums, we recommend you apply a little vitamin E oil to the gums prior to bleaching.
Can anyone use the PelactivBRIGHT System?
Almost everyone can enjoy the benefits of the whitening process if their teeth and gums are healthy. Remember, teeth cannot be bleached whiter than genetically possible. Tetracycline stains cannot be removed nor can stains resulting from excessive fluoride. However, excluding these few factors approximately 95% of clients will experience success.
I have a crown on my anterior or front teeth. Will your product whiten my crown?
No, but the standard procedure is to first whiten all adjacent teeth, wait two weeks for the colour to stabilize, then go to your dentist and have him match the crown to the new shade of your teeth. However, if a crown is already been in place for many years, the whitening process can return the rest of the teeth to the original shade prior to the crown placement. The same goes for composites, bridges, and veneers.
I have a pierced tongue. Can I still use PelactivBRIGHT?
Yes but you must remove the piercing before treatment as it will turn black if left in the mouth.
How long before I can eat or drink after my treatment?
The first 24 hours following treatment we recommend you avoid coffee, tea, dark coloured sodas, red wine, berries, lollies, red sauces, beetroot or any foods that have the propensity to stain. Remember if it stains a white T-shirt, it will stain your teeth.
How long will results last?
Up to 2 years is not unusual, provided clients follow the post treatment instructions. However, depending on your lifestyle, you may prefer to repeat the treatment more regularly.
What causes stains?
Some teeth are naturally pigmented or stained as they develop. Typically, stains are a result of exposure to tea, coffee, smoking, fruit juices, cola, wine, age.... in fact anything that would stain a white T-shirt.
